MT5 - What format is in the .DAT email files?

My MT5 accounts disappeared, out of the blue. No warning, no nothing.

The email / mailbox files are still in place.

How can I have access to the contents of the emails? I see they are .DAT files, but opening them in a text editor doesn't show the content in plain text.

What kind of software should I use to get to the contents of those .DAT files?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

You need to address these Q to your Broker.

NOTE: always back up your terminal folders (especially MQL5, config, and profiles) if you're handling sensitive or irreplaceable data.

The question has nothing to do with brokers, please read it again. It's specific to the format of .DAT files.

Thank you.

yes, but the broker will be able to read out to you the content of the emails. Even if you made the file readable, dont you think that is same as hacking? why would a mq rep give out that information/ability?

Hello, .DAT files are binary files. They store information for example symbols.dat stores symbol info. Profiles.dat stores your chart profiles.
If you are looking to restore you may also restore ini, config files

MT5 dat files are binary and proprietary so you can't open them or edit them until you are expert in MT5 internals

Why would it be the same as hacking? They're my files. Also, you didn't specify any public / private key arrangement on the part of the broker, is something like that in place?

Yes, but what you want to say is _some_ .DAT files are binary files, I've looked at some of them and they are plain text.

Is there an objective way of getting the content of the emails?

they are proprietary of mt5. You can't sneak them. Use settings of mt5 to manage email related settings which is located in tools - options

Would be happy to. But how do I do that if the accounts don't load?

contact the broker, obviously. If it is your account, then, you can ask them to reset your passwords.
