The Artificial Algae Algorithm (AAA), proposed by Uymaz, Tezel, and Yel in 2015, is a combination of biological natural phenomenon and mathematical elegance. This metaheuristic optimization algorithm draws its inspiration from the fascinating world of microalgae, whose colonial habits and adaptive capabilities served as the basis for the creation of an algorithmic optimization model. Inspired by the ability of microalgae to move toward a light source, adapt to changing environmental conditions, and reproduce by mitosis to improve photosynthesis, AAA was developed to mathematically model these unique properties.
The algorithm includes three key processes: spiral movement, evolutionary process and adaptation. Spiral movement simulates the three-dimensional movement of algae in a nutrient solution, allowing them to find optimal conditions for growth. Evolutionary process ensures the reproduction of algae colonies in the most suitable conditions promoting their development and improving solutions. Adaptation helps less successful colonies to become more like the largest colony, ensuring their survival and further development.
