2nd time MT4 and MT5 terminals closed themselves...why?

Wake up computer running, no restart as browser windows that I left open are still open. Yet all my terminals seemed to have closed themselves.

  • Nothing on the expert logs.
  • Of course nothing on journal because the terminal closed.
  • No errors on windows event viewer
  • No power outage for same reasons stated above
  • Ram did not get overloaded at 25%
  • Hard drive at 30% capacity
  • Temporary internet interruption cannot cause the terminals to close
Computer does back itself up can creating a restore point cause the terminals to close?

Any ideas what the possible cause is?

Most likely, Windows Update installed an update, restarted your computer, logged you back in automatically, and reopened your web browser, which then automatically restored all the tabs/windows you had open (yes, it can do this).  MetaTrader 5 (among other programs) does not get reopened automatically when this happens.  Check your system Up time in the Performance tab of Task Manager to confirm this.  A sufficiently low time would confirm that a reboot did in fact take place.  You could then check your System log in the Windows Event Viewer to find out why the system rebooted (this information typically shows up under the source "User32", so press [Ctrl]+[F] and use that as a search term).

System Restore creating restore points does not close running software; it makes a Volume Shadow Copy in order to back things up even as running software is making realtime changes.

2nd possible reason could be you had a Blue Screen of Death or windows error that caused a forced reboot. This might be indicated in task manager by a short "Up Time", or in the windows logs.
