Are backtest results reliable for selecting a robot...

Hello guys

I have tested a lot of robots via meta trader backtest

But the results is very different from real experience

What's your idea about doing a good backtest?

Absolutely not reliable. There are a lot of ways of faking those backtests, even on the MQL5 market. Always look for demo or live accounts testing (which can also be faked as a matter of fact).

But good backtests can be produced, using good quality historical data and by taking into consideration the broker’s commissions and delays and all which are frequently not considered.

There is a general rule to follow: if it’s too good to be true, it’s usually not true.

You must look at visual testing.
What is important to search is to watch where the entry is done, what is following after that, where it takes profit, if the trade goes south, what strategy uses in order to recover, if there are recovery systems.
What kind of profit systems use etc.
In general, before buy an EA, you must understand what the EA does.
Do not look BLINDLY at the backtest line.

Understand the strategy, if you like what you see and covers your needs, then the EA is potentially good because after this, you need to match the right balance.
