Diversifying risks

If you keep capital in equal portions in roubles, dollars, euros and gold - is that diversification?

You will never go bust in this way?

Does it even make sense to do so?

Ivan Butko:
Will you never burn out that way?

Is there any point in doing it this way?

It's always more reliable in a basket this way. It's important to keep it in the right proportions.

Is that what they do at all?

If you think about it. Gold, the euro and the rouble are all tied to the dollar. The dollar goes down everything else goes up. The dollar rises, everything else falls. Diversification is when your portfolio consists of instruments that do not correlate with each other or this correlation is insignificant. For example, equities in the energy sector and industrial equities plus equities from the banking sector plus government bonds and gold.

If you buy shares in VTB and Sberbank, it does not mean that you have diversified. But a portfolio of shares in Uber, Avtovaz and Gazprom is already diversified, because these companies come from different sectors of the economy - banks, the car industry and the energy sector.

These are all from Russia. Everything is tied to the Russian economy. If the economy does not grow, the output will be less than that of the bank.

I see what you mean. Thank you !

Evgeny Belyaev:

It's all from the RF. Everything is tied to the RF economy. If the economy is not growing, the return will be less than in the bank.

So, should we invest in some international giants like Coca-Cola, Google and China?)

So that was not a recommendation or a call to action. Just an example to get a better understanding. :)

It is best to invest in liquid property, ideally outside the RF, because you don't know what will happen even in a year.

Investing in shares in Russian companies is pure masochism. The economy is shaky, the sanctions risks... Even a minor event can bring down our market.

I started to wonder what will happen to our economy when we run out of gas?

Diversification doesn't work. It's the entry and exit point that matters. If you buy different assets at once, the economic effect will be minimal.

It is my understanding that he wants to save capital, not trade.

in roubles is not necessary. in dollars, euros and gold.
