I work in the stock exchange - it means that you are an employee of the stock exchange. You can only play on the stock exchange and still work with a specific instrument.
The whole question lies solely in the realm of terminology.

Yes. Especially for financial institutions like banks.
Banks do not play forex. They exchange real currency in the Foreign Exchange market.
