How to debug an EA using external debugger?

I would like to know to debug an EA using external debugger. I have IDA pro debugger and I would like to debug an EA using IDA Pro

You can't — an EA is not an executable (EXE). Use the built-in in the editor.

But many people do it, what about using metatrader.exe and load the EA on the metatrader.exe do you think It will work???
