Adding new trades

What are some ways (other than every "x" number of pips) to add new trades to your position (not compounding, the same lot size each time) if trend trading?

Trade retracements.

Thanks for the input, but that won't work for me because if the price retraces, the trade is closed out. Considering using new highs for longs and new lows for shorts - any suggestions for an indicator to determine that?
