Thanks, I presume the '2' stands for the open price of the third candle as a trigger?

So if it is changed to '1' the indicator will place the fractal sign on the previous candle at the open price of the current candle.

It is a number of bars it is checking (to the left and to the right). It will never check the current bar - the most recent would be the first closed bar
