Gold Trend Following for MetaTrader 5

An automated Expert Advisor designed for XAUUSD on the H4 timeframe, using breakout and momentum strategies with ATR-based trade management.

The EA evaluates completed candles and opens trades when the selected strategy’s conditions are met. It does not use grid, martingale or averaging down.

Two Selectable Trading Modes

Breakout

Trades confirmed price-channel breakouts in the direction of the EMA trend filter.

Default settings:

  • 20-bar price channel.

  • 200-period EMA trend filter.

  • Stop Loss: 1 ATR.

  • Take Profit: 4 ATR.

Momentum

Identifies strong directional movements relative to market volatility.

Default settings:

  • Momentum measured over four candles.

  • Entry threshold: 1.5 ATR.

  • Initial Stop Loss: 1.5 ATR.

  • Trailing distance: 3 ATR, updated on new signal candles.

  • No fixed Take Profit.

Recommended Setup

Platform: MetaTrader 5
Instrument: XAUUSD — select your broker’s Gold symbol.
Signal timeframe: H4
Default strategy: Breakout

Attach the EA to the Gold chart, review the position-sizing settings and enable algorithmic trading. Keep the terminal or VPS running for trailing-stop management and time-based exits.

Trading frequency depends on market conditions. The EA may remain inactive when no valid setup is present, and positions may remain open across multiple days.

Position Sizing and Testing

Position size increases in configurable steps according to account balance. This is not fixed-percentage risk sizing: monetary risk varies with volatility, Stop Loss distance and contract specifications.

Before live use, backtest with your broker’s data and evaluate the settings on a demo account. Results are affected by spreads, commissions, swaps and execution conditions.
