What is Strategy B?

It is a fully automated trading advisor designed for trading Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The system is based on a classical Price Action approach — Momentum trading. No hype such as AI, quantum models, or other buzzwords. The strategy uses almost no technical indicators, which eliminates the risk of overfitting: only the ADX indicator is used to detect range conditions and impulse direction, and Bollinger Bands are used for the Trailing Stop. The core entry signal is determined exclusively through Price Action.

A key feature of Strategy B is its Profit-to-Loss ratio, which exceeds 3:1, making the system suitable for professional use.

The default presets are designed for trading Bitcoin and Ethereum on the M15 and H1 timeframes.

Why is Momentum trading considered one of the classical foundations of trading?

Momentum is formed when liquidity flows into the market — meaning a large player enters the market with interest in a specific price movement. This significantly increases the probability of a trend forming. Strategy B generates the majority of its profit precisely during such trending movements.
Considering that the cryptocurrency market is highly volatile and naturally trend-driven, Momentum trading is its ideal environment.

Moreover, if you analyze the trading history, you will notice that during major cryptocurrency market crashes across different periods, Strategy B successfully captured those movements.

Strategy B operates in both directions — Long and Short, although in the settings you can choose a preferred direction and limit trading to Long-only or Short-only.
All trades are protected by a fixed Stop Loss and Take Profit — no martingale, no averaging, no grid.

Dear friends,

I'm thrilled with the launch of Strategy B (as are the first users, as I can see from the reviews)! I've added a new preset - BTC_H1_C. Below are the results since May 2018. I'm optimizing the sets for the period from 2023 to the present. The period from 2018 to 2023 is a backward test. Therefore, the probability of matching the results to real trading is extremely high. Therefore, the probability of overfitting is approaching 0.

Hi, thank you! I was really tired when I wrote the post. I meant BTC_H1_B

Hi everyone,

While observing price behavior, I noticed that price often reaches the Stop Loss set by the trailing stop (the system uses a Bollinger Channel–based trailing logic) and then reverses.

To address this, I added an additional offset parameter, which helps place the trailing stop slightly further away from the channel boundary. This should reduce premature stop-outs and improve real trading performance.

Updated preset files are attached — the changes affect only the trailing stop logic.

Cheers!

Friends,

We all know that crypto, despite being a highly volatile market with strong profit potential, is also extremely manipulative and risky. It does not forgive mistakes.

Today we witnessed a clear example of this. In less than one hour, Bitcoin surged from $87,000 to $90,000 — a classic liquidity grab. During this move, our stop losses were triggered (yes, in profit, but that doesn’t make it much more pleasant), new long positions were opened, and then a sharp reversal followed.

A very similar situation happened with Ethereum a few days ago: the price reached 3177, collecting liquidity, while our stop losses were placed at 3164. I tend to act quickly in such cases. With Ethereum, the market maker’s target was quite clear — a liquidity sweep along the Bollinger Bands channel (something I have observed many times before). As a result, I made a fast decision and added an ATR offset to the channel, aimed at protecting the system from this type of manipulation.

However, today’s Bitcoin situation was more complex.

How can we protect against such manipulative moves? At that moment, I was closely monitoring the S&P 500, and it remained completely “in place.” This is a strong sign of a pure manipulation, not a genuine market move. Eventually, I found a solution — a trend filter based on the S&P 500. In simple terms: if the S&P 500 is in a downtrend, the system will not allow long positions, which would have prevented today’s scenario.

My goal is to make Strategy B an ideal Expert Advisor for crypto trading, and I will put in every effort to achieve that.

All backtests and preset files are attached.

Below is the portfolio configuration I personally plan to use:

  • M15: BTC_M15_A, BTC_M15_B, ETH_M15_A (all with the SP500 filter)
  • H1: BTC_H1_B and ETH_H1_B (both with the SP500 filter), ETH_H1_A (without SP500 filter)

We are on the path to greatness.

Cheers! 🍻

How to enable / disable the S&P 500 filter and configure it correctly

Strategy B includes an S&P 500 trend filter, used as a market regime filter (risk-on / risk-off).

🔹 How to enable or disable the filter

Go to the EA settings → section:

<< === SP500 TREND FILTER === >>

Enable S&P500 trend filter
  • true — filter enabled
  • false — filter disabled

The filter is enabled by default, as it makes trading more conservative and stable.

🔹 How the filter works

  • The EA analyzes the Fast and Slow moving averages of the S&P 500

  • When the Fast MA is above the Slow MA, only BUY trades are allowed

  • When the Fast MA is below the Slow MA, only SELL trades are allowed

The filter does not generate entry signals — it only restricts trade direction, protecting the system from manipulative moves in the crypto market.

🔹 How to set the correct S&P 500 symbol

It is very important to specify the correct symbol name, as it depends on your broker.

Parameter:

  • S&P500 symbol name (broker-specific)

Common examples:

  • US500

  • SPX500

  • US500Cash

  • USA500

➡️ Open Market Watch in MetaTrader and check the exact index symbol name provided by your broker.

🔹 Timeframe and parameters

  • Timeframe for S&P500 filter — timeframe used to determine the trend (default: M15)

  • Fast SMA period — fast moving average period

  • Slow SMA period — slow moving average period

It is recommended to keep the default values, as they are already tested.

🔹 If S&P 500 data is unavailable

Parameter:

  • Block trades if SP500 data is unavailable

  • true — trading will be blocked if S&P 500 data is not available

  • false — trading will continue without the filter

For most users, it is safer to keep this set to false .

This filter reduces the total number of trades but significantly improves trade quality and system stability, especially during periods of high volatility and market manipulation.

Cheers! 🍻

🚀 Strategy B v1.2 — Portfolio & Risk Framework Update

Hi everyone,

I’d like to share an important update for Strategy B v1.2, focused on one critical goal:
reducing risk and making the portfolio safer “out of the box” — especially for traders who use the system without deep portfolio analysis.

🔑 What’s new in Portfolio for version 1.2

1️⃣ New Conservative Presets

Two new conservative presets have been added:

  • BTC_M15_C

  • ETH_M15_C (updated version)

Both are designed for lower volatility, smoother equity curves, and better drawdown control.

2️⃣ Default Risk Reduced to 1%

The base risk per trade has been reduced from 2% to 1%.

This decision was made because most users trade the system “as is”, without adjusting money management.
The new default ensures:

  • Better capital protection

  • Lower drawdowns

  • More sustainable long-term trading

3️⃣ Presets Reorganized

All presets are now divided into two groups:

  • All Presets — the full set of available strategies

  • Recommended Presets — a curated portfolio designed for safe, real-world trading

4️⃣ New Recommended Portfolio (4 Presets)

The Recommended Presets now include:

  • BTC_M15_C

  • BTC_H1_B (with S&P 500 filter)

  • ETH_M15_C

  • ETH_H1_A

This combination provides diversification across timeframes, assets, and market regimes.

🎯 Main Goal: Lower Risk by Default

Many traders use Strategy B exactly as it comes — without portfolio analysis or custom risk optimization.
That’s why version 1.2 was designed to be conservative and safer right out of the box.

As a result:

  • The maximum portfolio drawdown is now limited to ~10-15%

  • The current portfolio is officially Conservative

  • Equity curve stability has been significantly improved

📉 Market Context

In December, the crypto market reached a level of historical drawdown across multiple momentum systems — both public and private.

The market is currently in a range, with market makers actively sweeping liquidity on both sides.
This behavior typically precedes a major trending move.

Strategy B is designed to perform best when that trend begins.

Strategy B v1.2 is a major step toward professional-grade risk control and portfolio stability, especially for real-world trading conditions.

🔹 New Preset: BTC_M15_D

I started working on this preset several weeks ago. During this period, it successfully handled a sharp market move and the weekend sell-off, after which I decided to publish it as a separate working setup.

In essence, BTC_M15_D can be used as a standalone strategy, without the need to combine it with other presets. It features:

  • relatively high trading activity,

  • solid profitability over time,

  • stable and consistent logic on the M15 timeframe.

⚠️ Important: due to the higher trade frequency, adding other M15 presets is not recommended, as this would increase correlation and overall risk.

👉 The optimal portfolio combination, in my opinion, is:
BTC_H1_A + BTC_M15_D
This setup combines a more conservative H1 preset with an active M15 preset, resulting in a balanced risk / return profile.

📦 The updated preset package and all corresponding backtests are available in the attachments.

Ivan Pochta

👋 Friends, I’ve updated the entire recommended settings package for Strategy B.

This update includes 4 new preset files:

🔹 BTC_M15_D
🔹 BTC_H1_C
🔹 ETH_M15_D
🔹 ETH_H1_C

📉 Q4 2025 turned out to be a challenging period for the crypto market and momentum-based systems. Many strategies experienced drawdowns — which is absolutely normal for long-term trend-following algorithms.

With the approval of Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs and the arrival of institutional players, market conditions have changed noticeably:

  • 🔻 Lower volatility

  • 🔊 Increased market noise

  • ⏳ Longer and more frequent range (flat) phases

This is a natural process during a shift in market structure and capital redistribution.
Our task is to adapt to the market, because unfortunately, the market will not adapt to us.

📊 Thanks to the recent months — and especially the sharp move and sell-off last week — it became possible to recalibrate the strategy for the new environment and achieve more conservative and stable performance while maintaining profitability.

Based on this, a new set of presets has been prepared, which I recommend using under current market conditions.

📎 All new Preset and Backtest files are available in the attachments.

🚀 Strategy B Updated to v1.3

Strategy B has been updated to version 1.3.

This update introduces an integrated Prop Firm Risk Module, designed for trading under strict drawdown rules.

  • Equity-based Daily Loss control
  • Equity-based Total Loss control
  • Automatic blocking of new trades after violation
  • Optional auto-close of all EA positions
  • FTMO-friendly Entry Delay & micro price offset

The core trading logic remains unchanged — the new modules act as an additional protection and execution layer.
