BTC Guppy
BTC Guppy is an automated trading system developed for MetaTrader 5, designed to identify potential trend reversals and continuation opportunities in the Bitcoin market.
The EA is built around the Guppy Multiple Moving Average (GMMA) methodology, developed by Australian trader and technical analyst Daryl Guppy.
THE IDEA BEHIND GUPPY
Daryl Guppy developed GMMA to analyse the behaviour of short-term traders and longer-term investors using two groups of exponential moving averages.
Short-term EMAs: 3, 5, 8, 10, 12 and 15 periods.
Long-term EMAs: 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 60 periods.
By examining how these moving averages compress, separate and interact, GMMA helps identify changes in trend direction and market participation.
BTC Guppy applies this established methodology through automated entry and trade-management systems developed with Bitcoin trading in mind.
FOUR INDEPENDENT TRADING ENGINES
BTC Guppy includes four independently configurable entry engines:
GMMA Trend Reversal BUY – Identifies potential transitions into bullish trends.
GMMA Trend Continuation BUY – Looks for opportunities when an established bullish trend resumes after a pullback.
GMMA Trend Reversal SELL – Identifies potential transitions into bearish trends.
GMMA Trend Continuation SELL – Looks for opportunities when an established bearish trend resumes following a temporary recovery.
Each engine can be enabled or disabled independently. Traders can select BUY-only, SELL-only or combined trading.
TRADE MANAGEMENT AND RISK CONTROL
BTC Guppy combines its GMMA entry methodology with structured position management.
-
Fixed Lot and Percentage Risk position sizing
-
Adjustable initial stop-loss protection
-
Swing-based trailing stop management
-
Independent BUY and SELL trailing parameters
-
Adaptive spread protection
-
News filtering
-
Configurable trading hours
-
Broker-aware trade validation
-
Multi-page information panel
The swing trailing system is designed to follow developing price structure rather than impose a compulsory fixed take-profit target. This allows profitable positions the opportunity to participate in extended market trends.
ADAPTIVE SPREAD PROTECTION
Bitcoin spreads can fluctuate considerably depending on market conditions and broker execution.
BTC Guppy monitors recent spread conditions and calculates an adaptive protection threshold using a rolling percentile method.
This helps restrict new entries when spreads become unusually expensive relative to recent market conditions.
The protection threshold, percentile and spread allowance can be configured through the EA settings.
CUSTOMISATION AND OPTIMISATION
All 12 GMMA moving-average periods are adjustable, allowing users to explore different configurations through the MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester.
Both trading directions, individual entry engines, initial stop-loss settings and trailing parameters can be configured independently where applicable.
BTC Guppy also features a dedicated multi-page information panel displaying trading status, spread behaviour, news information and performance statistics.
BUILT AROUND AN ESTABLISHED METHODOLOGY
BTC Guppy combines the original GMMA concepts developed by Daryl Guppy with independent automated trading logic and risk-management features.
The objective is to provide a configurable system for identifying and managing potential Bitcoin trend opportunities.
BTC Guppy is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Daryl Guppy.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Historical backtesting does not guarantee future trading results. Performance can vary according to broker conditions, spreads, execution and market behaviour.
Always evaluate the EA carefully before using it on a live trading account.
