During a discussion with a colleague at Goldman this morning, it appears that investment in gold may not be a prudent strategy in light of current developments. Despite its recent upward trend, gold may no longer be as effective as a hedge in times of uncertainty, and there may be more efficient alternatives available. For instance, purchasing VIX puts may provide a more cost-effective means of hedging against market volatility. Factors such as storage and insurance costs associated with physical gold must also be taken into consideration. If current circumstances were deteriorating , it would likely have a negative impact on the US stock market and broader Western prosperity ( in fact quite the opposite is happening) making investment in gold a less attractive option.
