Creating Indicator Alerts

Is it possible to create alerts on indicators when you don't have the source code to that indicator.
I think it is not possible, unless the indicator has built in alerts.
It is possible if the indicator uses buffers.
Code a new indicator using iCustom and add the alert code to the new indicator.
