Programmer beginner needing direction

Hi all,

I am completely new to the metatrader concept. I have traded forex etc for quite some time but only recently discovered metatrader and the fact that I can backtest with it, and wanted to see if I can put it to use. My broker offers metatrader platform but I have not used it up to this point. 

I merely want to backtest and then hopefully automate a system I designed which uses nothing but price (no technical indicators etc).

The problem I am having is I do not know where to start. 

I have watched some videos on youtube and also read some of the MQL4 and 5 reference material, but in both occasions I have absolutely no idea what any of them are talking about. 

Is there something which would show a dumbass like me, step by step, how to start from the moment I open up the metatrader editor, how to take my system and convert it into code, how to back-test it, and then how to set it to auto-trade?
