It would be better if you use the Meta Trader 4 since MT5 is relatively new to the markets and most of the Brokers still do not allow Live trading in the MT5 platforms.
Just downloaded Meta 4. I'm having the same problem problem. The market watch wont move.
Check same query is posted here Forum: Forex Trading with MetaTrader 4 if not then start new thread and mention your query there.

If you are using a live account - Change your broker immediately 
and start trading with some STP which have direct access to qoutes like fxdialogue
