You mean can an EA that performs well in a Strategy Test run actually make real money when tested live ?  well that depends on the quality of the Strategy and coding and more importantly on the quality of the evaluation techniques, most people that code EAs are not professional coders and even fewer are professional Test Engineers,  why would you expect that they know how to test their EA properly or objectively ?

try forward test the EA in the strategy tester and see how much it differs from the optimized period.

This can check for curve fitting.

From my experience EAs that use bigger tp and sl distances do perform as over 80% as tester but scalping EAs or those with quick exits dont since just a small change in situation can turn profit in to losses. Also beware of those who are losing or not signaling and are no1 at advicing trading issues.
