🤔 Why am I no longer developing EAs for MT4?
Starting in 2025, I will no longer develop EAs for MT4.
The reason is that MT4's order execution mechanism differs from MT5's, and trading results between different EA versions can vary. Even if the EA name is the same, they are essentially completely different products.
In addition, MT4's backtesting functionality has many limitations and relies solely on TickDataSuite to import historical data.
In contrast, MT5 provides direct access to high-quality historical data provided by local brokers, which is crucial for verifying that EA backtesting results are consistent with actual trading results.
If backtesting doesn't reflect real trading conditions, then the basis for developing trading strategies loses its value.
Based on the above considerations, I have decided not to continue developing the MT4 version of the EA. If your broker does not yet support MT5, you may consider switching to one that does.
🛡️ How can I reduce the likelihood of purchasing a fraudulent EA?
1.) The EA's true out-of-sample start time should be based on the date the EA was published on the MQL5 sales page, not simply the seller's stated start date.
2.) Before purchasing, confirm that the seller's publicly displayed trading signals are roughly consistent with backtested performance to avoid situations where the seller has manipulated backtesting results in the code.
3.) Be wary of non-MQL5 sales channels. If the seller doesn't sell through MQL5, there's no impartial third-party record of the EA's true release date, making it difficult to verify the EA's true out-of-sample start time.
4.) Be careful to ensure that the trading signals provided by the seller are the same EA listed on the sales page. This type of fraud is difficult to prevent.
5.) Stay away from marketing claims that promise guaranteed profits or returns. There's a fine line between investment and fraud. Sellers have an obligation to inform buyers in advance that any investment carries the potential for loss and loss of return.
