The hardest part of trading a small account? Getting the trade right and still making very little.

You read the trend correctly, respect your stop, and close the trade in profit. Then you look at the dollar amount and think, “If only I’d traded more lots.” That’s the thought I have to watch most closely before my next trade.

I started this gold trading signal with a small account. I use the 4-hour chart to identify the trend, then wait for price to reach a key level and look for confirmation on a shorter timeframe. When the setup is clear, I take it. When gold keeps chopping back and forth, I’m comfortable waiting.

As my account equity has grown, I’ve gradually increased my position size. Before I decide how many lots to trade, I work out how much I can afford to lose if I’m wrong. With a larger account, a move of the same size can now produce a larger profit in dollar terms. When the account goes through a drawdown, I scale back.

There were days when those small profits barely felt worth recording. Looking back, those trades built the equity that lets me trade larger positions today. I still size each trade using my account equity and the distance to my stop. And I’m happy to take the part of a trend I understand and let the rest go.
