How is it possible that the balance could go into deficit?

It's probably just a glitch. This situation is only possible when several positions are opened. One of them is much more negative than the balance, and the others are positive. In this case, when you close the minus, the balance will suddenly go into minus. But otherwise... it's just a glitch in the demo account...... it happens...

If the positive amount on open positions exceeds the negative balance, as much as you like.

Balance in general is a harmful figure. It's self-defeating. Equity (funds) is the main measure of what you have at the moment.

Balance is what it once was.

How do you calculate that you can lose more than your deposit? Equity is zero in your example...
