NFP: US Economy Adds 160,000 Jobs in April, Below Expectations

US economy added 160,000 new jobs in April, the US Labor Department reported Friday. It came in below expectations of 200,000 and it was the weakest gain since September.

The unemployment rate however held steady last month at 5%. February and March readings were downwardly revised by a combined 19,000 fewer jobs than initially estimated.

Average hourly earnings advanced 2.5% from a year earlier, a firmer gain than March's increase of 2.3%.
