Google may offer wireless plans, using T-Mobile, Sprint networks: report

Google Inc. GOOG, +1.05% GOOGL, +1.09% is considering becoming a wireless carrier, providing a new service that's expected to run on Sprint and T-Mobile's networks, says a report from The Information citing people familiar with the matter. The report says: "Google is preparing to sell mobile phone plans directly to customers and manage their calls and mobile data over a cellular network ... showing how the Internet conglomerate is increasingly wading into new businesses outside of its core in order to spur broader industry change." Shares in T-Mobile US Inc.TMUS, -0.92% and Sprint Corp. S, -0.47% added to gains after the report, with Sprint up 6% at last check.
