Google Maps, the powerful online mapping tool, owes its success to two key elements: GPS, which calculates a position on the Earth’s surface, and an exhaustive map that contains information such as your home address, your favorite restaurant, and the donut shop you pass on the way to work. It turns out that the brain’s navigational system works in much the same way.
