1) Select Symbol: "EURUSD"
2) Select Period: "H1"
3) Select Model: "Every Tick"
4) For Spread: Set "15" (points) for standard MT4 tester, or set "Variable" if you're using Birt's Tick Data Suite
5) Under Expert Properties >> Testing tab, set "Initial Deposit" to $3000 USD (minimum recommended amount)
6) Use default EA settings for Conservative Risk performance (Auto Lot Sizing disabled)
7) Or enable Auto Lot Sizing by applying the V8.0 Auto Lot Set files according to your risk appetite (Auto Lot Risk Levels: Standard/Medium/High). You can download the Set files from the "Comments" section or FAQ.
8) Start your Back Test as far back as from 2004 if you wish
Grid Hero V8.0 Live Usage Instructions:

Order Flow Levels...
The market can some times be very gruesome and unforgiving to an extend that makes you wonder if the market is 'targeting' your every move.
One of the most common and frustrating moments is price hitting your SL and then magically turn back in your original trade direction, as if the market is taking you out at a personal level.
Sounds familiar? In fact this is a very common phenomenon which many traders and their EAs always experience day in day out. And you might wonder why is that so...
Well I don't think anyone will have a right answer for that, but here's my take on this.
Most retail traders learn their trading skills thru classroom training, online courses or sources, and most educational materials out there have this standard guideline of teaching you the so call correct way to trade.
As such many traders will tend to think the same way, feel the same sentiment, and do the same thing when comes to analyzing and entering the market.
For example, where to place your SL and TP, where to enter the market, and where to exit the market, etc.
This will usually result in many traders placing their trades, SL and TP at more or less the same level, which will form the order flow levels where many orders manifest.
Such order flow levels are usually not accessible by retail traders but your broker will have full access to these levels.
Thinking in this context, the market is actually not targeting your SL, but rather the order flow levels where the bulk orders are, and where your SL happened to be at.
Grid Hero is designed to counter such phenomenon, by using its averaging algorithm it is able to recover your trade even when price goes against your trade(s).
Grid Hero doesn't place trade at predictable levels and the price level at exiting its trades are always hidden without a trace.
Grid Hero always operate in stealth mode, doesn't use pending orders, doesn't show where it is going to exit the market.

Simulated Execution Delayed Slippages - The ultimate stress test for your EA...
Execution Delayed Slippages is one of the main cause of your live trading results being different from your what you see in your back tests, and this is the way how live trading tells you "Welcome to the real world".
Under live trading conditions, slippages usually occurs when liquidity is inadequate and that the broker's liquidity provider did not fill your order fast enough resulting in a delay in trade execution which in turn resulting in your order not getting filled at your desired price. Unfortunately such phenomenon is very common in real live trading and you can see it almost every day if you pay enough attention.
But the thing is that slippage does not exist in back test or demo trading, which is why you see different results in live trading especially for scalping EAs.
In a back test or demo environment, the liquidity factor does not even exist, hence your orders will always get filled at your desired price, which is far from reality.
As such, many traders often got burned when they start running EAs on their account expecting live trading results will be the same as back testing or demo.
This is why it is important to be able to factor in Simulated Slippages in your back tests by inducing simulated delays in your trade executions.
Again, such feature is not available in the standard MT4 Strategy Tester, and only available thru third party tool which allows you to specify the amount of execution delay (in milliseconds) that you want to use.
In my latest Grid Hero V8 video, you will be able to see how the Simulated Execution Delayed Slippages are factored into Grid Hero's back tests, giving it a good stress test.
So there you have it, the 3 important elements that you need in performing a realistic back test: Real Variable Spread + Commission + Simulated Execution Delayed Slippage.
This will help you weed out many EAs out there and save you a lot of your hard earned money.

Commission - the often neglected cost in back test
The first thing that most traders always remember for back testing is none other than spread cost, however many have neglected the importance of factoring in commission into your back test as well.
Commission usually comes into play as part of your trade transaction cost (apart from spread) when you are trading on an ECN account.
The standard MT4 Strategy Tester does not allow you to set commission in your back test, which is essential for realistic back test results.
Again, you will need a third party tool in order to be able to specify the commission value to include in your back test.
Commission value is just as IMPORTANT as your spread value, when comes to performing a realistic back test.
And if an EA can withstand a back test with both Commission and Variable Spread factored in, then it is a very good sign that the EA will be profitable in live trading.
Remember, back testing is pointless if it is not using realistic setup. And yes you can still use back test simply to test the functionality of an EA, but nothing more than that without a realistic setup.
Grid Hero's back tests are all carried out with Commission + Real Variable Spread + Simulated Execution Delay Slippages.
The Commission value which I always use for my back tests is $7 round trip per standard lot, which is an average commission value among brokers.
You can refer to my Grid Hero videos (link below) to see how the Commission value was included as part of my back test setup.
So I have touched on both Commission and Variable Spread, and the other equally important factor is none other than "Execution Delay Slippages", which I will cover in another post.

Why is it so important to back test with Variable Spread?
The standard MT4 Strategy Tester only allows you to test with a fixed spread, which obviously is unrealistic.
In real live trading, the spread is constantly changing, which varies from broker to broker.
And depending on broker, spread can sometimes be as low as zero, and it can also be as high as you can imagine during news time or major events.
For example, during a major news breakout, the spread of EURUSD can go up to as high as 10 pips (or even more), which will never be captured in a fixed spread back test.
It is important to be as realistic as possible in your back tests and to simulate live trading conditions as much as possible in order to get accurate back test results that are close to live trading.
As such, the following things are essential in enabling back testing with Variable Spread:
- a third party MT4 tool (eg: a plugin) that allows you to back test with variable spread
- real tick data from reputable source that comes with real variable spread values
With these you will be to perform a proper back test with 99% modelling quality, and any EA that can withstand a variable spread test is definitely one big step closer to being profitable in live trading.
And don't get me wrong, the standard MT4 Strategy Tester is still a good tool to test the functionality of an EA. However you will need more than that in order to test the profitability of an EA.
Testing with Variable Spread is just one of the important things, there is also the inclusion of Commission which forms part of your trade cost (if using ECN), as well as Execution Delay Slippages.
These 3 factors are usually the root causes of live trading results being different from back test results, which unfortunately is very common among the EA market place.
This is for your own good, so please REMEMBER this as it will help you greatly in filtering out many rubbish EAs and saves you a lot of money.

If you have been using Grid Hero, you should have noticed that your today's balance is always more than yesterday's (if not the same).
Basically your account balance will never be lesser, it will always be increasing...that is how Grid Hero works.

THE KEY LIES WITH THE USE OF MARGIN...
Be it a human or a robot, nobody can be always right when predicting the market's direction.
So when your trades go south, a normal trader or a normal EA will usually take the losses with a Stop Loss, realizing your negative positions into real losses.
Grid Hero do this differently by making use of the available margin with an averaging technique to recover negative positions into profits.
So instead of taking losses by means of SL which is what a normal EA would do, Grid Hero taps into your margin to average out all your positions in the form of a basket.
And then it always closes the whole basket with profit using its core averaging algorithm.
A closed basket usually contains a mix of loss and profit trades, but the main point is that the net PnL of the basket is always positive - this is how Grid Hero's averaging technique works.
And when a basket is closed, ALL trades will be closed, so as to minimize the duration of floating trades as much as possible.
This is how Grid Hero 'recover' your negative trades into a positive net outcome, without taking any net losses.
