BoJ Weighted Median Core CPI y/y reflects a weighted average percentage change in prices of goods and services, excluding food and energy prices, in the specified month compared to the same month of the previous year. Volatile food and energy prices are excluded from the calculation of the Core CPI. Additionally, weights are assigned to individual components in accordance with the household spending structure as of the base year 2015.
CPI growth against insufficient inflation can be seen as positive for JPY. However in recession, the rise in CPI may lead to a more severe economic downturn and fall in the national currency.
