U.S. President State of the Union Address is an annual message presented by the President of the United states to the Congress. The Constitution requires the President to give such an Address, however its periodicity is not indicated. It is traditionally presented in January or February.

In the Address, the President usually outlines results achieved over the past year and shares agenda for the coming year. The President speaks about the general situation in the country, presents the results of the work of his administration and a new legislative agenda.

The text of the Address is then published on the White House web site and in the media. Politicians and economists across the world closely monitor the rhetoric of the President. A special attention is given to the characteristic of the national economic and financial system. The legislative agenda, particularly its parts concerning economic and financial regulation, is also considered very important.

The event can have a short-term impact on the market and US dollar quotes. Optimistic speech is considered to be a positive factor. Conversely, if the Address contains indication of high political tension, the short-term volatility of the US dollar may have a negative character.
