One of the main tasks of Norges Bank is to maintain the country's financial stability. Financial stability means that banks and the financial system as a whole are able to adequately fulfill their tasks even in the event of severe downturns and economic crisis. Norges bank publishes the Financial Stability Report on an annual bases, in which it evaluates the vulnerabilities and risks to the country's financial system.

The publication focuses on long-term structural characteristics of domestic banks, of global financial markets and of the Norwegian economy. The report includes a current assessment of financial imbalances and of the country's banking system as a whole. Such a comprehensive analysis enables Norges Bank to identify early vulnerabilities and risks that could lead to financial crises and thus to take effective and timely measures.

If the report expresses concerns about the country's financial stability, the publication may affect the Norwegian krone negatively. Conversely, if the report suggests optimistic outlook, the impact on Norway's national currency may be positive.
