Australia New Motor Vehicle Sales m/m reflect a change in the number of new motor vehicles sold in the reported month compared to the previous month.
Data on sales is collected by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries. Figures include information on direct sales from manufacturers and dealers across Australia. The indicator covers passenger cars, sports cars, vans, trucks, buses, military vehicles, public transport vehicles. The scope excludes motorcycles, plant and equipment, unpowered vehicles (such as bicycles, etc.).
The indicator is seasonally adjusted to exclude the influence of economically insignificant factors.
The new motor vehicle sales figure is an indirect indicator of consumer spending and capital investment of enterprises in equipment. It is almost never interpreted directly, but can provide analysts additional information.
